How Do Invisalign® Clear Aligners Work?

Invisalign® clear aligners are an increasingly popular alternative to traditional braces. They are made of a clear, plastic material that is virtually invisible when worn. The aligners are custom-made to fit snugly over your teeth and gently shift them into the desired position over time. Each set of aligners is worn for about two to three weeks before being replaced with the next set in your series.

How Do I Get Started with Invisalign®?

Invisalign® treatment begins with a consultation with Dr. Horowitz, a certified Invisalign® provider. During the consultation, he will examine your teeth and mouth and take x-rays, impressions, or 3D images to create a treatment plan. If you and Dr. Horowitz decide that Invisalign® is right for you, the next step is to have your custom aligners made.

You will be given a series of aligners to wear, each one slightly different from the last. As you progress through the series, your teeth will gradually shift into their new, desired position. You will need to wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours each day, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss.

We will need to see you every four to six weeks so that they can check on your progress and give you the next set of aligners in the series. Treatment typically takes about 12 months, but it can vary case-by-case.

How Much Does Invisalign® Cost?

The exact cost will depend on several factors, such as the severity of your case and how long your treatment will take. Many insurance plans offer some coverage for orthodontic treatment, so be sure to check with your insurer to see if Invisalign® is covered.
