What is Obstructive Sleep Apnea? Conway, Murrells Inlet & Myrtle Beach SC

When you sleep, your brain takes the opportunity to catch up on rest. Unfortunately for some people with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), their body doesn’t allow this luxury because it randomly stops breathing pauses during slumber which can lead into severe consequences in terms of health and well-being such as high blood pressure or diabetes; among others. Mild cases may only be aware through fatigue whereas severe ones might experience shortness felt by exertion.

Obstructive sleep apnea is classified by severity:

  • Severe obstructive sleep: apnea means that your AHI is greater than 30 (more than 30 episodes per hour)
  • Moderate obstructive sleep apnea: means that your AHI is between 15 and 30
  • Mild obstructive sleep apnea: means that your AHI is between 5 and 15
